Influence of Dependency Parsing on the Prosody of Chinese Discourse

چکیده
Dependency parsing has been a prime focus of Natural Language Processing. The present paper was attempting to elucidate the relationship between prosodic variation and syntactic structure within the framework of dependency parsing. The study adopted Harbin Institute of Technology (HIT) dependency parsing tool to annotate Chinese spoken discourse corpus. Duration variation and stress distribution patterns were employed as parameters to examine the interactions of the syntactic structures and the prosodic features. Preliminary results demonstrated that there was an intrinsic association between duration variation and dependency relation. Specifically, governor duration was more likely to be longer than dependent duration of dependency relations of LeftAdjunct, Mood-Tense, Attribute, Quantity and so on. Moreover, in “DE” Construction, Preposition-Object and Verb-Object, the dependent duration was much longer.

Syntax-prosody Interface for Romanian within Information Structure Theories
The following main ideas have been pointed out and put to work within our paper: (a) Information Structure (IS) theories (topic-focus, theme-rheme, background-contrast, informational and contrastive focus, focus projection rules, etc.) on text are shown to behave currently as a consistent linguistic tool that can stand behind a correct, language and contextual-depending, mapping of text into sp...
متن کاملAn improved joint model: POS tagging and dependency parsing
Dependency parsing is a way of syntactic parsing and a natural language that automatically analyzes the dependency structure of sentences, and the input for each sentence creates a dependency graph. Part-Of-Speech (POS) tagging is a prerequisite for dependency parsing. Generally, dependency parsers do the POS tagging task along with dependency parsing in a pipeline mode. Unfortunately, in pipel...
متن کاملSpeaking Rate Effects on Discourse Prosody in Standard Chinese
What is the prosodic mechanism of faster or slower discourse speech? This paper focuses on observing the effects of speech rate on discourse prosody of Standard Chinese speech with fast, normal and slow speech rates. The investigation in discourse prosody structure demonstrates that the speaking rate effects on discourse prosody are nonlinear and need careful manipulations.
متن کاملText-level Discourse Dependency Parsing
Previous researches on Text-level discourse parsing mainly made use of constituency structure to parse the whole document into one discourse tree. In this paper, we present the limitations of constituency based discourse parsing and first propose to use dependency structure to directly represent the relations between elementary discourse units (EDUs). The state-of-the-art dependency parsing tec...
متن کاملCorrecting and Validating Syntactic Dependency in the Spoken French Treebank Rhapsodie
This article presents the methods, results, and precision of the syntactic annotation process of the Rhapsodie Treebank of spoken French. The Rhapsodie Treebank is an 33,000 word corpus annotated for prosody and syntax, licensed in its entirety under Creative Commons. The syntactic annotation contains two levels: a macro-syntactic level, containing a segmentation into illocutionary units (inclu...
